The population in Bethesda is just under 60,000, according to Newsweek magazine. The community is roughly 85 percent white, 6 percent Latino, 8 percent Asian, and 3 percent black, according to the 2000 census.

 

Of residents 25 or older, 79 percent have bachelor’s degrees while about 40 percent have graduate or professional degrees.

 

The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females, there are 88 males. Roughly 53 percent are married couples and the average family size is 2.92, according to census records.
